X-ray polarization-dependent measurements of solid-density plasmas generated by fs laser pulses

چکیده
We report on studies of plasmas, formed by the interaction of 80 fs, 1 J Ti:Sapphire laser pulses with solid matter. The laser intensity was 5 10 W/cm. The Ka1, 2 X-ray emission spectra at z4.5 keV were measured using a toroidally bent GaAs (400) crystal spectrometer with the spectral and spatial resolutions of 0.3 eV and 4 mm, respectively. A Si (220) polarizer was used for determining the polarization properties of the recorded emission. A strong polarization dependence of the Ka satellite emission was observed, which may indicate an anisotropy of the relativistic electron velocity distribution. Also, electrons with energies in the range of 500 keVe13 MeV were detected using an electron spectrometer. 2007 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved. PACS: 52.38.Fz; 52.50.Jm

X-ray generation by femtosecond laser pulses and its application to soft X-ray imaging microscope
We have developed laser-produced plasma X-ray sources using femtosecond laser pulses at lOHz repetition rate in a table-top size in order to investigate basic mechanism of X-ray emission from laser-matter interactions and its application to a X-ray microscope. In a soft X-ray region over 5 nm wavelength, laser-plasma X-ray emission from a solid target achieved an intense flux of photons of the ...

Experiments of x-ray emission from Ar, Kr, and Ar/Kr gas jet mixture were performed at the UNR Leopard Laser Facility operated with 350 fs pulses at laser intensity of 2 × 1019 W/cm2 and 0.8 ns pulses at an intensity of 1016 W/cm2. Debris free x-ray source with supersonic linear nozzle generated clusters/ monomer jet with an average density of ≥1019 cm−3 was compared to cylindrical tube subsoni...
متن کاملMetal nanoplasmas as bright sources of hard X-ray pulses.
We report significant enhancements in light coupling to intense-laser-created solid plasmas via surface plasmon and "lightning rod" effects. We demonstrate this in metal nanoparticle-coated solid targets irradiated with 100 fs, 806 nm laser pulses, focused to intensities approximately 10(14)-10(15) W cm(-2). Our experiments show a 13-fold enhancement in hard x-ray yield (10-200 keV) emitted by ...
متن کاملRole of surface roughness in hard-x-ray emission from femtosecond-laser-produced copper plasmas
Hard x-ray emission in the energy range of 30–300 keV from copper plasmas produced by 100-fs, 806-nm laser pulses at intensities in the range of 10210 W cm is investigated. We demonstrate that surface roughness of the targets overrides the role of polarization state in the coupling of light to the plasma. We further show that surface roughness has a significant role in enhancing the x-ray emiss...
متن کاملInvestigation of the XUV Emission from the Interaction of Intense Femtosecond Laser Pulses with Solid Targets
The generation of coherent high-order harmonics from the interaction of ultra-intense femtosecond laser pulses with solid density plasmas holds the promise for table-top sources of intense extreme ultraviolet (XUV) and soft x-ray (SXR) radiation. Furthermore, they give rise to the prospect of combining the attosecond pulse duration of conventional gas-harmonic sources with the photon ux current...
